The secret to achieving a perfect spray tan has EVERYTHING to do with preparing the skin before your session and maintaining the tan afterwards. Please thoroughly read through the BEFORE AND AFTER info as soon as possible so you can ensure all steps are followed properly.
* Exfoliation is essential to ensure that spray tan results are optimal. You should exfoliate your skin 2 to 4 times before your session. Using a simple exfoliating soap will not suffice. We strongly recommend using an exfoliating glove (available at soleil bar) along with a good scrub. Exfoliating will remove dead skin cells from your skin. If your skin has not been exfoliated properly, your spray tan may be uneven, and results may fade away prematurely and/or with spots. Our spray tan solutions have been designed to fade away gradually and evenly when skin is free from dead skin cells. Otherwise, dead skin cells can leave and create white spots on your spray tan.
Think of your spray tan as the icing on the cake. If you're preparing for a special event, you should book your spray tan appointment 24-48 hours before the big day, and book all other beauty and skin treatments the days before your tan and avoid booking any treatments on the same day as your tan. Lotions and oils that are applied to the skin during manicures, pedicures, waxing or sugaring, eye lash extensions and massages to name a few can leave a residue on the skin and act as a barrier to the spray tan. You can always reach out to us if you're still unsure how to plan your appointments accordingly.
YES! Always before, but preferably not the day of. The soaking, steaming, scrubbing, exfoliating, and nail polish remover, lotion and oils during your manicure or pedicure WILL cause stripping, fading and/or complete removal of the spray tan in those areas.
NO! Spray tans react to amino acids in your skin. Nail polish, gels and acrylics actually do not react to the solution. The cosmetic bronzer can leave an off-color if it is left on the nails with no protection or cleaning. Don't worry though. We protect ALL nails on hands and feet with a barrier cream that we apply for you AND we thoroughly clean your nails after the spray tan for you to ensure there is no color residue left behind and that your nails look just as good as they did when you walked in. Go ahead and pick a light color that will really pop against your spray tan if you wish, they will not be stained.
If you have bare nails, the solution can cause staining/discoloration. This is why we recommend having your nails done or even painted with a clear polish just to protect them. We treat all nails the same, so whether they're painted or unpainted or have gels or acrylics, we protect them and clean them at your appointment.
We do not recommend doing this, but we understand sometimes it's the only option and we cannot guarantee a flawless result.
If your mani/pedi is scheduled the day of your tan AND before your tan appointment,
ask your tech to:
Again, this is our least favorite option, however if you have no other option, you will need to follow the following rules to preserve your tan as best as possible:
These WILL damage your tan or remove it completely. We've had clients phone us in a panic because they had mani/pedis after their spray tans and it completely removed the tan in those areas.
We recommend getting your eyelash extensions BEFORE your spray tan. Like all other beauty and skin treatments - the eyelash appointment should take place during the days BEFORE the spray tan and avoid getting them done the same day as the tan.
Your lashes cannot get wet for the first 24 hours after they're applied AND the tapes and eyepads applied can leave a glue residue to the skin that will act as a barrier to the spray tan (even if you cant see any residue). If you choose to tan the day of your lash appointment, you are doing so at your ow risk as it could affect the lash retention and your tan result.
DO NOT get your eyelash extensions after your spray tan. The tapes and eyepads used during your lash appointment WILL strip off the tan in those areas.
* The minerals and petroleum oils found in most creams may affect your spray tan and using such creams may cause your results to fade away prematurely.
